Insulin is a hormone that allows the body use and/or store glucose that is needed for energy. Excess sugar can make a person fat.
Glucagon regulates the use of glucose and fats. It is being released during low blood glucose levels and whenever the body needs additional glucose due to vigorous activities.
Eicosanoids influences most body functions like immune function, inflammation and blood clotting.
The diet is a supporter of taking calories from carbohydrates and protein a balanced ratio. Called to be anti-inflammatory and heart friendly, the Zone Diet is composed of five sets every day, three meals and two snacks.
Each meal should comprise of forty percent carbs, thirty percent protein and thirty percent good fat. The trick is easy. Divide the plate into three equal parts. Low protein meat or fish in one section, just the size of the palm. Complete the second portions with either fruits of veggies.
Lastly, fill the third section with healthy fats such as canola oil, nuts, sesame oil, peanut butter and olive oil.
This type of diet does not promise drastic effect on weight loss but rather gradual. Pairing this with exercise is being encouraged, especially in weight maintenance.
