Be careful while dyeing your hair

dyeing hair

Women find it confusing when it comes to dyeing their hair. It’s the chemical in the hair color that actually reacts with our hair pigment. So it is imperative to know the available types of colors out there.

Bleach & highlights remove color from your hair through the process known as ‘oxidation.’ If you want to turn your hair into white this is the choice you could go for.

Excessively bleached hair often gains a yellowish color because keratin itself is pale yellow in color. Without bleaching it is not possible to give your hair a lighter shade.

If you opt for an easier choice then you have the option of semi-permanent or temporary hair color. This type of hair dye will give your hair more natural look and you can apply such dyes straight from the applicator as they don’t have to be pre-mixed.

Temporary colors fade away with everyday shampooing and exposure to air. On an average this type of color lasts for 5-6 weeks so they need to be reapplied frequently. One more important aspect about semi-permanent color is they don’t contain bleach.

Permanent hair dyes are a combination of oxidizer (e.g hydrogen peroxide) and ammonia. The formulation of this type of hair dye is complicated and this doesn’t have to be applied as frequently as semi-permanent colors. Permanent dyes could prove to be more damaging to your hair as chemicals used are stronger than other dyes. At the same time you need to leave the dye on your skin for a longer period of time.

Ammonia free hair dyes are made of an organic chemical compound known as Monoehtanolamine (MEA). This compound is a replacement of pH adjuster in hair color and used at lower percentage. MEA can make bonding with emollient oils which in turn make it less volatile an less damaging than ammonia. However, if you use this type of color excessively it will cause damage.

Your hair calls for extra care

Chemicals used in hair dye reduce the elasticity of your hair. As a consequence, hair that has been dyed is vulnerable to damage and becomes dry. The best way to combat brittleness, breakage and dryness is to apply a deep conditioning before every time you go for shampooing.

This will restore the moisture of your hair and make it more elastic. Deep conditioning can even add shiny, bouncy look and manageability to your hair. If you go for bleaching you should go for conditioning after every shampoo because bleaching causes your hair to interlock and tangle easily.

You should use smoothing product to help close hair cuticle. This will prevent moisture evaporation which in turn gives your hair a healthier & glossier appearance.
