Having an oily skin is very frustrating especially for women. Apart from the oily face problem, we also have to deal with finding the right product to use in removing oil or the right make up to cover up that oily face.
Typically, we wash our face with water whenever we feel the oiliness or when removing make up. We then keep on asking ourselves why our skin is still oily or why do we still have acne when we often wash our face with water?
Most people with acne-prone skin uses water more often when cleansing and tend to over cleanse their skin which makes it drier. The skin then produces more oil to compensate the dryness, thus making the skin oilier.
According to a dermatologist, there is something wrong with our usual cleansing routine using water and the thought of using oil-free products when you have acne-prone skin or oily skin. Instead of using water for cleansing it is better to use oil as cleanser since cleansing oil does not clog pores, therefore it will not cause blackheads.
Therefore, oil-based products should not be avoided if you have oily skin because they contain vitamins, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that you actually need to get rid of acne. In fact, when completely cleansing the face using oil-based cleanser, the good oil removes the bad oils that are naturally produced and the dirt from those make up. “Cleansing oils are based on the premise that like dissolves like” Dr. Sejal Shah of Smart Skin Dermatology.
