They said that it’s the inside, or the personality, of a person that matters. Yes it is true. Your personality matters, because what you are inside will manifest outside. Your work done and its quality among other things may just be a reflection of who you are as a person, but it may as well be the judge of your importance factor to other people. In short, your productivity is vital to make your life – and yourself – matter.
However, being productive is never like a photocopying machine. Press the green button and it will be releasing papers after papers of photocopied documents. It is also not like a eureka moment that suddenly appears then disappears. No. productivity is an exercised routine accomplished through a strict discipline.
Famous people like Thomas Edison and Stephen King follows a strict routine every day. What time to wake-up, how many minutes to relax, what time to start working and many others along those lines. It must be effective, since their names are now dotting the history and filling the textbooks.
For a lot of people, following a routine is hard, boring, and takes away the life from things. However, it will also set you in a head start.
Imagine, in checking your email every day, you do it a lot of times an hour. Even if it only takes a few seconds, imagine the accumulated minutes you could have spend finishing your work instead. With routines, checking your emails is scheduled. It will give you more focus, less distractions, and massive results.
However, kit does not mean you need to work three hours or more straight. Set a 10 minute interval after an hour of work, or if you’re new, a five minute interval for every 30 minutes of work done. It will give you time to refuel (this includes literally drinking of water), gather your thoughts, and a breath to ease the impending stress.
The routines will also help you achieve you peak productivity as it gives order among things. This includes the prevention of multi-tasking. Many people believe multi-tasking increase the works done. Nope. What it increase are stress and distractions, while decreases the quality of work.
On the other hand, achieving productivity is not limited on following routines. It also includes being practical. Apply your street smart personality in doing things in order to save time and do more work. Why would you shop in a supermarket when you know that time is frequented by people? It’s not practical and with no achievable benefits.
Know when to say no and to say yes to requests. When you have a lot of work, don’t be afraid to refuse. It’s work, nothing personal.
Another angle for a productive day is a scheduled work-out. Don’t stay in front of the computer all day. Do some physical exercises as it will increase your energy and will help you think straight.
