You might be skipping these fruits during meals because too much Vitamin C wouldn’t do you any good. I hate to break it you, but lemons and limes are more than just your quick fix for Vitamin C.
There’s more to these fruits that you might be missing because you missed devouring them and replaced them with junk food or other types of fruits that might be sour to the taste.
You almost forgot that these wonders even existed right after you discovered Vitamin C and all the other nutrients your body require through tablets, syrups and capsules.
First, let’s differentiate lemon from lime. Lemons (Citrus Limon) are oval in shape and feature a yellow, texturized outer peel. Like other citrus fruits, their inner flesh is encased in eight to ten segments.
Usually smaller than lemons, limes (Citrus Aurantifolia) are oval or round in shape having a diameter of one to two inches with green flesh and skin. They can be either sour or sweet depending on the variety.
Sour limes contain citric acid giving them an acidic and tart taste, while sweet limes lack citric acid and are sweeter in flavor. Coming from the same Genus which is Citrus, lemon and lime differ from color and size, and sometimes at taste.
This entire fad going on around about lime/lemon water had been a crazy yet effective experiment. But what can we expect more from the lemon and lime duo?
While there are discussions over the internet whether which fruit is better, we can surmise after perusing this article that both will do wonders for you, your stomach and your health in general.
Both fruits are excellent sources of Vitamin C, B6, Potassium, Folate and Limonene which is regarded as these fruits’ best component. Lemon and lime also exhibit huge amounts of phytochemicals which are main sources of anti-cancer and anti-oxidant properties.

Limonene – Most commonly found on citrus fruits like lemon and lime, this substance is most commonly used in cosmetic products. Limonene derived its origin from lemon and the main odor constituent of most citrus fruits around.
Limonene is being used in aesthetic purposes such as fragrance in perfumes, aftershave lotions, batch products and so much more. As a medicine, limonene is available to relieve heartburns and other gastro reflexes. This wonder chemical also had been considered a biofuel.
The highest content of limonene is found in the white spongy inner parts of the lemon. When juicing a lemon, put in the whole fruit together with the peel, to get the most nutrition out of it.
Make it a habit to put in cut limes/lemons (together with peel) into your drinking water or juices, to enjoy all its medicinal properties. With lemon juice in your drink, the absorbability of the other nutrients in your drink is increased up to five times.
Limes and lemons can be stored in the fridge for up to two weeks. Although they can actually keep longer, it will soon lose its flavor after too long. When buying lemons, look at the stem end of the lemon. There should be about four or five little lines radiating out of the stem. The greater the number of these lines, the higher the mineral content of the lemon.
While it is really undisputable that lemon and lime are wonders created by nature, some human reactions must always be of consideration. Allergy to citrus peels or sensitivity to acidic food consumption are some of the things that one must look into before binging into the healthy saps of the said fruits.
