High blood pressure is devastating to human health. If it persists for longer period of time you will be in higher risk of stroke or heart attack in near future. Healthy changes in your lifestyle can pull the blood pressure down to normal (120/80 to 140/90). But don’t wait until your blood pressure touches the ceiling to switch to a healthy lifestyle.
Give medication the least priority in an attempt to lower your blood pressure as medicines create several side effects like dizziness, cramps or insomnia. Obtain a healthy weight first and then try to adhere to these strategies to reduce the blood pressure.
Power walks: Fitness walks at a brisk pace usually pull down blood pressure by 8mmhg over 6mmhg. Power walk helps heart to utilize oxygen more efficiently so it doesn’t need to beat hard to pump blood. It is suggested to take a vigorous walk for about half an hour on most days of the month.
Be salt smart: Salt raises the blood pressure in human body, so it is mandatory to consume salt at its lowest level. People with high blood pressure would be able to control it without any medication just by cutting down the salt consumption.
Less alcohol: Over the decades medical science is proving that excessive drinking is injurious to health in several ways. According to recent review of 20 studies, it is once again revealed that the less you drink, the less prone you are to blood pressure. For some people who can’t but drink every day the recommended limit is ‘one drink’. Here the limit refers to 12 ounces of beer or 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of spirit.
Take up tea: According to a research conducted by Tufts University, people who take 3 cups of hibiscus tea every day can lower their blood pressure by 7 points in 4-6 weeks time range. The phyto-chemicals present in hibiscus are probably the catalyst that pulls down the blood pressure. There are many herbal teas that are rich in hibiscus. Look for blends that list it at the top of the ingredient chart.
Relax with music: The right music can lower your blood pressure! Well, it may sound bizarre but a research by the University of Florence in Italy shows a comprehensive result. 30 people who are actually taking hypertension pills were asked to listen to soothing classical or sub-continental music daily with slow breathing. Only 7 days later the listeners were able to lower their systolic reading by 3.2 points and it was down to 4.4 points after 30 days.
