Skin oil or scientifically termed as Sebum is the skin’s likely moistness that lubricates or greases the scalp and hair, and keeps our skin from drying up.
It is the sebaceous glands which secrete the sebum and are situated just underneath the superficial of the skin.
Oily skin is the effect of hyper-activity of the sebaceous gland that is triggered by factors such as change in puberty diet, menstruation, birth-control pills and other drugs, and hormonal imbalances due to pregnancy.
Hot and sultry weather conditions and some cosmetics are also associated to the hyper-activity of the said glands.
Usually, men are more predisposed to oily skin than women. This is because the sebaceous gland is more dynamic amongst men due to androgen.
