The most common medical term for bad breath is ‘Halitosis’ which means an unpleasant odor of the breath of a person.
The person suffering from bad breath problem usually remains unaware of the fact for many days because people around that person remain too embarrassed to say anything. He/she knows the fact when a family member or close friend tells about it.

Most people are victim to dry mouth while they are sleeping and the condition get worse if you sleep with your mouth open. Without the right volume of saliva mouth can’t remove food particles that are trapped between teeth. Some medications may lead to chronic dry mouth problem.
Medications: Few medications can involuntarily produce bad breath by contributing to dry mouth. Medications like chemotherapy medicines, tranquilizers or nitrate based medicines may lead to bad breath.
Infectious mouth and other nose, throat conditions: Bad breath can stem from any surgical wounds after oral surgery or as a result of mouth sores. Very often small stones that form in the tonsils may give rise to bad breath problem. Chronic inflammation or sinuses that can contribute to postnasal drip may also cause bad breath.
