A teen boy taking a normal diet may sometimes lack some of the body nutrients or the nutrients may be inadequate.

The teen boys are also involved in many sporting activities which may need additional diet supplements to boost their health.

On the other hand teen girls are also involved in sporting activities and they also need dietary supplements.

Iron: Iron is present in many multivitamin supplements. Iron can also be present in foods such as meat, poultry, egg yolk, oatmeal, iron-fortified cereals and spinach. Since girls at adolescence lose much blood during menstruation, iron supplements are important to replace the lost blood.

Folate: Folate is used to get rid of deficiencies which may cause anemia. Folate is also important for body cell growth and metabolism. It can therefore be important for teen girls under menstruation and also for pregnant teens to prevent birth defects.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 fatty acids are important for cognition development. They also lower the blood pressure and bad cholesterol. They are therefore important for teen girls during their mental growth.

Calcium & Vitamin D: Both calcium and vitamin D are used for teeth and bone development. Teen girls are recommended to take 15 micrograms of vitamin daily so as to make their bones strong in readiness for conception so as to support the pregnancy weight with no complication.

Supplements for teen Boys

These supplements can also be used by teen girls at some instances hence they are not limited for male teens. They include:

Casein protein: This is a milk derived supplement protein which is digested at a slow rate. It should be taken during sleep to supply enough amino acids throughout the night.

Creatine: This supplement for teens helps improve sporting performance. It helps improve energy and boost strength.

HMB and BCAAS: These are branched amino acids such as leucine and have the ability to improve muscle protein synthesis hence sparing muscle breakdown.

Antioxidants: Many body processes involve oxidation. Oxidation sometimes produces free radicals which can damage our cells. Antioxidant supplements containing CQ10, Vitamin C&E and garlic are very important to get rid of these harmful free radicals.

Because they are in growth stage all teens need lots of nutrients or supplements. If proper nutrition isn’t ensured through food then one can easily go for supplements.
