The moment that counts

Father-son-bonding

“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” – Abraham Lincoln

Nowadays, it has been so easy to get lost in the swarm of busy, in suit-and-tie pedestrians and fast moving environment in chase of their dreams and purpose. The fact is it could not be helped; not when the society has set structured paradigms of living deemed to be followed in order to have a place in this world.

And what are those standards that can reserve you a spot in the long line of people hoping for a piece of contentment and happiness? Wealth? Fame? Power? Heck, they’re too many, but the bottom line lies flat in the founding belief that serenity is found in the fulfillment of dreams. Before you throw rotten tomatoes at me that, in itself, is not a bad thing.

You can dream all you want, wish upon a star, throw a penny in the wishing-well, light an incense, pray, you name it – I won’t argue. We, after all, are creatures always in search of meanings. And what better way to find them than to have a purpose and deliver them.

It’s been that way since who knows when, hijacked into our brain, and ingrained in our system the same level as our common sense; and if by some unfortunate events that made you lack your common sense, I’m still quite sure your purpose is still there.

Be happy, that about sums it up. The things we do will all boil down to this one simple thing. The way we search for this, there will be a lot of sacrifices to be made, lost times, and missed moments. If by magic the trick is not to look closer, the reality tells otherwise.

Before you set foot and make a path of your own, break down the bigger picture into small pieces.

What is happiness for you?

Many times we’re too busy looking at the skyscrapers in the city, that often we get blinded by the lights; neglecting the possibility that what we may have been looking for all this time lies in the backyard of our small hometown, where the few years of rolling on the grass even after being scolded by your mother made more lasting moments.

No, you don’t have to abandon your life in the corporate world; all you need to do is take a deep breath once in a while and refresh your mind of the taste and smell of the moments that counts. If you’re having a hard time recalling, you might want to have some re-evaluation to keep your feet on the ground; chances are your head is too high in the clouds. (Yep, that’s quoting Paramore.)
