Let us get to know lemon balm. Originated from Europe, lemon balm or Melissa belongs to the mint family. With this being said, we can have a hint that one of its valued purposes is to bring relaxation and calmness. Lemon balm is known for its distinct lemon scent, especially when the leaves and stems are pounded and crushed. Do not mistake this herb, though as part of the actual lemon plant. 

Its aroma is a total treat for bees. Do not be surprised when bees start visiting your garden when this plant takes a place in your soil.

Originally used to cure an upset stomach, lemon balm is also known to treat headache, soothe tired nerves, alleviate depression and calm hyper little ones. It also helps those who suffer from insomnia and irregular sleep brought about by stress and mental fatigue.

Because of its antiseptic content, lemon balm can also be used for colds, pains and other cardiovascular conditions. Lemon balm can be taken either in topical form or orally. It can also reduce redness, itching and infection of the skin.

Lemon balm can’t be used in higher amount though. Pregnant women and those who are undergoing thyroid medication should observe the amount they use because it can have bring hypersensitivity and skin reactions.
