The sense of smell is one of the best human capabilities that have made life more worthy to fill. It is with smelling that we get to appreciate a certain brand of perfume, check and determine certain scents from a nearby standpoint, eat food more lavishly as it is known that the sense of smell dictates taste and so many things that are beneficial to a person’s existence.
Having a strong sense of smell had been deemed important to some people like fragrance makers, dieticians and food ‘tasters’ and aficionados of anything smelling good.
Little did we know that there’s an illness correlated to the sense of smell, and the most shocking truth is, some of us contracted it without us even knowing. Have you heard about fragrance sensitivity? If not, it’s best for you to read on.
To set things straight, fragrance sensitivity isn’t caused by allergens. If a person is attacked by allergens, the body’s initial response is to produce anti-allergen chemicals to fight it off, thus, the mucous membranes reacting on it.
Say when a person is attacked by allergens from dust or dandelion pollen, we can notice watering of the eyes and the mouth, continuous sniffing and endless whiffs of cough. Fragrance sensitivity, on the other hand, is caused and is delegated under irritants, which doesn’t jolt the entire immune system to combat it down; hence, it goes to disturbing your wellness directly.
Bottom-line, allergens are the reasons why we have allergies and irritants cause sensitivities.
Fragrance sensitivity is not, in any form, an allergic reaction.
Fragrance sensitivity is known to target two types of bodily effects which is either an attack to the respiratory, eyes slash nose and/or skin disturbances. In one way or another, fragrance sensitivity can include, but not limited to, difficulty in breathing, wheezing, cramped feeling in the chest area, sudden headaches, runny nose, uncontrollable sneezing, heightened asthma symptoms and contact dermatitis.
People with problems in the respiratory tract like asthma are more susceptible in contracting fragrance sensitivity, same as with those who have existing allergies to dust and animal allergens. A weakened and compromised condition in breathing should also be wary of this condition.
When you’re one of the millions who have been experiencing the aforementioned symptoms, you might want to take extra precautions in keeping strong fragrances away from you. While fragrance sensitivity is not a serious disease that needs to be tended all the time, preventing it from spawning into other worsened conditions would do you best.
It is deemed that there are no limits on as to what can scent can trigger fragrance sensitivity because technically speaking, anything with a scent can ignite irritation to those who are infected. Utilization of fragrance-free products would be best obeyed for your lotions, soaps, skin care products even on your laundry detergents and fabric softeners.
Since fragrance sensitivity is more of an individual battle, asking for your loved ones’ and co-workers’ cooperation in keeping the fragrance on a low would do you wonders. Being well-aware of the products that you’ll use would surely lessen the risk of you being ‘irritated’ again.
