Cry it out. Benefits of shedding tears

Benefits of shedding tears

Crying the eyes out is a way of showing an intense emotion is it extreme sadness or utmost gladness. Barbarians and the concept of machismo might link crying to weakness.

Wrong though, the act is human and even another species’ way of coping with feelings being perceived by the body.

Whatever the reason may be as to why a person feels the need to have a good cry, there are unsung benefits that come with this natural enduring mechanism.

Aside from emotional-related tears, the natural protective fluid that surrounds each eye can also cause watering of the eyes. This liquid is basal tears that contains lysozymes, an antibacterial component that acts as defense against bacteria and foreign bodies that might harm the eyes.

Aside from preventive mechanism, the eye also secrete tears whenever irritants managed to penetrate the eye. It’s the eye’s way of cleaning itself and to drift away dusts and other particles from the eye.

Tears lubricate the eyes. Hydration is important to this body organ because dry eyes can mean blurry vision. Shedding tears is like allowing the eyes to have a good shower and clean itself from all the debris from the upper layer.

It has been mentioned that lysozymes act as a cleaning agent on the eyes. This being said, this liquid being secreted by submucosal glands kills bacteria before it can actually create any damage to the eyes.

Lysozyme is also present in other protective fluids of the body such as saliva and breast milk that are said to amazingly kill foreign bodies to up to 95 percent in just a count of 10 minutes maximum.

Tears also release toxins that are caused by stress. Crying is the body’s diversionary tactic of releasing chemicals like the stress hormone called cortisol. Other pain-reducing chemicals are also being excreted whenever people do emotional crying.

Crying also improves the mood. By lowering stress, the body acquires better mood and shoo away the possibility of acquiring irritability, emotional disturbances and other stress related health conditions such as high blood pressure and heart issues.

So next time you feel like wobbling or sobbing, do not feel ashamed. Remember that this reaction is a natural life process to release not only overwhelming emotions but other harmful factors that can affect the body in a bad way.

Crying is also a form of intrapersonal and interpersonal communication that convey feelings that can’t be stressed enough by words. It’s a form of discourse that allows you and the people around to understand that circumstances are at a certain level that somewhat met the not usual trim.
