And so you’re stuck in a hellish traffic on a Friday night, what do you need to do? The easiest scapegoat to combat boredom is to just shrug your frustrations away and inch by inch watch your immediate surrounding change in a slow-mo fashion. No matter what type of traffic situation it might be—you inside your luxurious BMW, being canned inside a cramped bus or sweating inside the railway system despite the air-conditioning efforts; all are fair and square when you’re part of the commuting population.
Studies say that on an average, the whole world is wasting almost 45 minutes for daily travel and commute, which is not a very good figure. As time passed by, it had been proven that the traffic situation of this planet is getting worse despite endless attempts for alleviation via new highways and more sophisticated transportation lines and hubs. On a daily basis, it’s just saddening that almost an hour is wasted due to the inevitable battle for commute and as a smart time manager, getting the best out of that 45 minutes should go well-planned.
While you’re helpless in that frustrating traffic fiasco, you can still work on the road with the advent of smart phones that you carry with you. You can vividly make a plan of what you’d do the day after and having this organized while in transit would keep you busy.
Also, when you’re bored, more brain cells are ready to be activated and you might just come up with the best timetable of what you’d do the following day. You can either type this in on your mobile device and if space permits, you can even furnish a written copy of the compelled task you’d carry-out for the next working day. You can also check your emails even after work and scan for those you can delete.
This would definitely save you time the next morning since you sorted it all out while you got your buns planted on that bus seat. This very act is also your chance to ensure that you haven’t missed out on anything within the day, verify your sent mails and make some amends if necessary. If you have pending work that can be done on your mobile phone, you can start on it while you’re miserably jammed on the road, provided that you’re not the one driving.
If you just want to shut the outside world out and be cool while sitting, subscribe to educational podcast channels or watch stuff online that would boost your mood even when you’re completely knocked down. Traffic jams can also be your allotted moment to scan your social media accounts, connect back to your friends whom you haven’t replied in a couple of days and just be submerged with other’s people’s lives that you find interesting. Getting your social media fix would definitely be a good shot for you to avoid it once at home and spend the remaining hours for resting and relaxation.
If you’re not part of the tech-savvy community, then it’s about time to purchase a book and read on while you’re bumper to bumper with almost everybody. This would definitely kill the boredom switch, transport you to a new world and learn something new. And if you’re the one driving, the best way to combat the stress brought about by traffic is to sing to your heart’s content. Singing is scientifically proven way of releasing bottled emotions and so, sings on.
